The first series of works of Cappaert (2019-2023) has a very explicit and rough visual language. This style developed as a means to convey themes of anxiety, inner conflict and other psychological themes. In the later part of this period he became increasingly interested in cruelty and sadism, tying it up with ideas around the supernatural.
The second series of works of Cappaert (2023-...) goes deeper into this supernaturality and it's intersection with mental health and emotional trauma. The paintings consist of wispy figures in various locations familiar to the artist. Cappaert chose to abandon representing the opressing impact of these spirits and take a more reflective attitude on the topic. (Coming Soon)
